Born in Figueres in 1954, Pilar Heras has a PhD in Educational Sciences from the University of Barcelona (UB) and is professor at this University since 1985. Coordinator of the consolidated research group Social Pedagogy Group for inclusion and social cohesion (GPS-UB) and director of the UB’s own master’s degree on Criminal enforcement in the Community and Restorative Justice (previously called Postgraduate Criminal Enforcement in the Region) in co-responsibility between the Department of Justice of the Generalitat of Catalonia, third sector entities and Catalan universities.

She has been director of the Territorial Welfare and Family Services in Girona from February 2004 to June 2006 and founder and member of the Ethics Committee of the Social Services of Catalonia until 2016. She is a member of several academic and social  or socio-sanitary institutions, as well as collaborator of the associative world in the field of social action.

In the university sphere, she has carried out several investigations on the social and labor reintegration of persons deprived of liberty. Teacher in the field of social pedagogy in different topics: intercultural, social policies, gender, human development, social services, criminal enforcement. Currently, she also coordinates the official master’s degree in Social and Educational Interventions (UB). She has publications on social and labor reintegration (2014, 2015, 2016), post-incarceration reintegration (2015), juvenile justice (2008) and co-responsibility between administrations and third sector in social and penal action (2013, 2014).
